WOFF is to become a W3C standard
Nicolas Spalinger (SIL, Open Font Library) reports: "The W3C Web Fonts Working Group has now been chartered to work on refining and standardizing the WOFF format."
Nicolas goes on to say:
It's worth noting that other formats and delivery mechanisms are out-of-scope. We'll see how the WG participants and the community discuss the issues on the public mailing list.
The working group is chaired by Vladimir Levantovsky of Monotype Imaging.
