TVP Animation 9.5 Pro Beta on Linux, open yet restricted

Back in February we already reported that TVP Animation Pro tool is avialable as beta for Linux now. The news was pretty interesting, because despite of having Synfig around we could see how a lot of people could prefer an advanced commercial 2D animation package. Well, the company's management sent an April newsletter and things seem to look a bit differently now. First of all, they still intend to release TVP Animation Pro for Linux. However they have put a couple of restrictions without specifying reasons which leaves some room for speculations:

  • the beta version will expire on September 15th 2010 (that's nothing new);
  • the beta version won't be supported, even though you can provide feedback on the forum (reasonable as well);
  • you can save and export, but you are not allowed to use the beta version to produce commercial work (already interesting);
  • you cannot install and use the beta version in educational institutions (very interesting).
Not that I encourage speculations, of course :)

Judging by expiration date the final version might be expected this autumn.

In the mean time Synfig team is sliding towards a new version that features a number of usability improvements.
