New version of Shotwell, a Picasa/iPhoto like photo management application, is out.

Changes:

• autoadjustment of colors;
• shadows adjustment;
• hierarchy of events in sidebar;
• crop ratio presets;
• basic metadata display;
• background readahead for full size images;
• direct editing (open a file not from database and change it);
  
• UI localization is possible now.
  

The app is different from F-Spot, IntiPinku and the like by neither destructively changing images nor creating physical versions.

Shotwell is part of a set of applications for GNOME using Vala (even though Win builds are planned) created by a start-up called Yorba. Other apps are: Fillmore (multitrack audio editor) and Lombard (non-linear video editor).
