Jens Bache-Wiig announced a GIMP extension that allows saving user interface design created in GIMP to QML which is a JavaScript based declarative language to describe user interfaces.

A resulted project then can be used in Qt Creator for creating a real Qt application.

As you can easily guess this makes GIMP a design tool for graphics rich applications. You can read introduction to QML here.
