Just a couple of hours ago Leslie Hawthorn, open source program manager at Google, announced that there indeed will be Google Summer of Code 2010.

Applications from potential mentoring organizations will be accepted from March 8th to March 12th, students will have to apply between March 29th and April 9th.

Since 2005, that is, since the very first year various graphics related projects participated in the program. For a number of projects this resulted in new passionate developers who stick to the projects long after the end of their program.

Among the software projects that you know and that successfully participated before are: Inkscape, GIMP, Blender, Hugin.
