Google announces Google Summer of Code 2011

A little later than expected Google announced that it's doing annual Google Summer of Code program again, for the seventh time.

GSoC is meant to introduce students around the globe to free software projects and sponsor them to work on projects they care about.

In the past six years many of our "thematic" software projects successfully participated in GSoC: Inkscape, GIMP, Krita, Scribus, Blender, Hugin etc. Even more, about half of new features in Inkscape, Hugin and Blender come from GSoC projects.

Right now projects are discussing possibility to participate, but it's quite clear that at least Inkscape and Blender are going to apply for participation.
