Daniel Campbell started a new project called GIMPixel which aims to tune GIMP for pixel art. In a way this project is very much like GIMP Paint Studio.

So far GIMPixel contains a number of brushes, an additional color scheme and a couple of configuration files: templaterc sets new documents presets, while toolrc configures tools visible in the toolbox.

The project is just a week and a half old, so if you think that's not good enough, you can either be a bit more patient or you can help Daniel :)
