Artifex released an even newer free version of Ghostscript — a rather popular Postscript and PDF interpreter. The main change in this version is a new halftoning method for sampled images that is used for monochrome devices.

The existing method worked fine for large areas of same color, but didn't do such a good job for images where pixels of a particular value were scattered across a whole image. The new method that complements the already existing one solves this nicely by applying the halftone threshold array directly to the image samples.

This version also improves stability and performance of new features added in the 9.0x versions. The usual bunch of bugs have been squashed, memory use was optimized too.
